It's a Portrait Study!

Here is a study I did this evening for practice. I liked how it turned out! I may go in and refine it later on when I have more time, we'll see. =) It's good practice nonetheless!

SJAC Logo Design

Here is a logo design I came up with for a senior centre here in the city. I chose a silhouette of a crane as I feel that was an animal personification of independence and personal well-being. The font is Century Gothic.

Frankly, I'm quite happy with how it turned out!

I may go back and do some small modifications, but I have so much work to do this weekend.

Augh!

The Twitter name I really wanted has already been taken.

Here I was thinking I was so brilliant coming up with the name too. :P

A Weeping Werewolf!

Tired of the same old "I'LL TEAR YOUR FACE OFF" look from werewolves? Now presenting "Desperately in Need of Anti-Depressants" werewolf!

I drew this yesterday for a school sketchbook assignment, took a digital picture of it, and colored it in Photoshop with a watercolor feeling. I really liked how it came out! I want to do more drawings in this style. It feels a lot more organic and tangible than my other stuff.

Speaking of more drawings, I expect to post some old pieces of work I've done here in the young days of this blog. (Aka. the next few weeks.) This place also desperately needs some customization and a banner.

PS. Don't ask why the werewolf is orange, it just looked nice, I swear!

Inspired by...

It doesn't matter who we are, or where we came from, or how we got here, or who we plan to be - we are all inspired by somebody before us. Artists are inspired by other artists, or musicians by other musicians, or scientists by other scientists, or people by other people in themselves.

Grandparents, athletes, famous singers, film makers. The list goes on. It's quite interesting to hear what people are inspired by and why. It can be so diverse.

For my first blog post I thought I'd put down what inspires me, and what has inspired me to this point.

First and foremost, my parents. They work hard every day, not just at work, but also being good people. They taught me respect, compassion, work ethic, and if I want something I can't be expected to have it put on a silver platter. Thanks for whipping me into shape!

Also, my friends, who have also whipped me into shape in one way or another. You all inspire me to be a better person, a better artist and to work harder. You guys know who you are. =)

A credit goes to the man who showed up in my second grade art class with pictures of Pokemon you drew, which were awfully well done. (Pokemon was just coming into the world in 1998) A lot of inspiration came from that day, perhaps even planting a seed for the future?

Finally, I need to mention Brian Jacques, the author of the Redwall series. My mother got two books by him from the store sometime in middle school. I didn't think I'd like them, but a friend I had met in an MMMORPG then had mentioned them at one point and was rather enthusiastic about the series. I gave them a shot and within a few chapters of Marlfox, I was sold - not just in the story, but also in the world he had created and published. That said world has been, and continues to be a huge source of inspiration for my work. I doubt my artwork would be as good without that dose of inspiration he had given me.

Sadly, last month on February 5th, 2011, he passed away. Even if he is not here, his works will live on beyond his years, both in themselves and through those he has inspired. To me, that's the most any creative person could want.
